Getting Noticed -  Save El Monte Valley

This photo was just sent into SEMV from one of our members who ordered his bumper sticker from the www.SaveElMonteValley.com website.  Getting the word out and getting noticed is one of the things that needs to happen in order to stop these lines OR  to get them underground.    Lets ALL get noticed!!! Order your bumper sticker…..banner or  lawn sign…. distribute flyers door-to-door.  Make your own signs.  But whatever you do, don’t lose your determination.  It is the heart and soul of this community and its willingness to fight for what we believe in that will make the difference.  SAVE EL MONTE VALLEY!

Electrical Experts Confirm SDG&E Installation Fire Danger

More evidence that SDG&E, Sempra, and the CPUC are involved in a cover-up:

East County Magazine Article: Two electrical experts confirm Clark’s contention that SDG&E installations are dangerous, can ignite fires; SDG&E insists its lines are safe.

Donate to the legal fund today!!!!

Please contribute to our legal fund today.  To put your funds immediately to work for the fight, you can contribute to Protect Our Communities Fund at the San Diego Foundation.  Please indicate on your check if you would like to designate your funds to the legal fees of the East County Community Action Coalition (ECCAC), which includes the “Save El Monte Valley fund” or to the “Save Alpine fund”, etc.  If you don’t designate, the Protect Our Communities Foundation (POC) will use the funds as determined by their Board to be the most effective to fight the Powerlink.  (This is not a bad thing, as this is the only issue they are addressing at this time, and everything they receive is directed at this fight).  If you do decide to designate, please also let Laura Cyphert know by emailing saveElCap@yahoo. com, as she will be requesting a disbursement of those funds based on your specific designations.

Checks can be made payable to the Protect Our Communities Fund and mailed to:

The San Diego Foundation
2508 Historic Decatur Rd., Suite 200
San Diego, CA 92106

Please clearly indicate the designation, if any, on the check.

All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men and women to do nothing.  Plesae give generously. Our fight depends on it.

Say goodbye to our Golden Eagles… or ACT TODAY

I am saddened to find myself in a country where it is considered “low impact” to rob a community of its open spaces, scenic corridors, healthy homes, fire safety, and then …… on top of that…. knowingly cause the mortality of a dwindling species… Golden Eagles.  I think “low impact” only considers the corporate profit, and not the public interest.  The following is taken directly from the final EIR.  See link for the full document. See page 131 of on this link http://www.cpuc.ca.gov/environment/info/aspen/sunrise/feir/D02%20Biology.pdf

The golden eagle is very sensitive to human activity, especially in the vicinity of its nesting area(s), and even distant construction activity (or maintenance activity; see Section D.2.16, Impact B-12) could cause abandonment of a nest, subsequent reproductive failure, and continuing decline of the species. These impacts would be significant according to Significance Criteria 1.e., 1.f., 1.g, and 1.h. Significance Criterion 1.e. states that the Proposed Project would have a substantial adverse effect on the breeding success of the golden eagle. Significance Criterion 1.f. states that the Proposed Project would directly or indirectly cause the mortality of a special status species. Significance Criterion 1.g. states that the Proposed Project would result in the abandonment of migratory bird nests and/or eggs. Significance Criterion 1.h. states that the Proposed Project would take golden eagles, eagle eggs, or any part of an eagle. Human activity within 4,000 feet of nest site is considered significant and not mitigable to less than significant levels (Class I)

All it takes for evil to pervail is for good men and women to stand by and do nothing. TAKE ACTION TODAY.

The East County Community Action Coalition (ECCAC)

Some of us from the Save El Monte group have been visiting our neighboring community SDG&E open house “horse and pony” shows (including Campo, Scripps Ranch, and Alpine), and at each one we have discovered other passionate and vocal groups who also oppose this betrayal against our East County of San Diego.   These passionate groups are scattered throughout our east county, and although each one may only represent 20, 100, or 300 people; together we represent thousands. By becoming organized we can coordinate our actions, from fundraising,  to letter writing, to hosting community events.  Together we can start to WAKE UP the sleeping segment of San Diego that does not realize that there is a very real and threatening firestorm that is brewing in all of our back yards.  Once we do, our numbers will be in the tens of thousands.   By organizing locally, in each of our unique and special east county communities, but then coordinating regionally, we can get the voice for East County that we should have had all along.   Please support the ECCAC!  For more info email SaveElCap@yahoo.com with the subject line “ECCAC”.

SDG&E set to pay after misstating Sunrise info about the route alternatives

The Union Tribune published an article on March 7, 2009 that San Diego Gas & Electric Co. agreed on March 6, 2009 to pay up to $1.1 million to settle accusations that it tried to mislead state regulators about the proposed route for the Sunrise Powerlink.

The company didn’t admit lying to regulators, but apologized for what it said was a mistake: failing to include two documents in a public filing describing a presentation to staff members at the state Public Utilities Commission.

Folks, the “missing” documents were about the route alternatives that include the route through OUR VALLEY.

TWO ELECTRICAL EXPERTS CONFIRM CLARK’S CONTENTION THAT SDG&E INSTALLATIONS ARE DANGEROUS, CAN IGNITE FIRES; SDG&E INSISTS ITS LINES ARE SAFE

February 24, 2009 (San Diego’s East County) — Ed Clark, an electrical protection engineer-turned-whistleblower, contends that inappropriate power line installations by SDG&E/Sempra Energy have caused multiple wildfires in San Diego County – and that the utility’s refusal to replace or correct the installations leaves our region at risk for more fires.

SDG&E disputes Clark’s claims and insists that its installations are legal and safe. (See our story: Investigator claims fault utility line installations caused 2003 Cedar and Paradise Fires as well as fires in 2007; SDG&E disputes claim). Now East County Magazine has spoken with two additional electrical engineering experts—and both confirm Clark’s contention that such installations are dangerous.

CPUC To Hear from Public on Rural Power Shut-off Plan

The Union-Tribune reported yesterday on the California Public Utilities Commission’s determination to examine SDG&E’s current plan to shut off power to rural communities during periods of high fire danger. The CPUC will hold meetings on April 7 and 8 in Alpine and Valley Center to hear from the public about the impact of this plan.

This presents an important opportunity for local residents to make their voices heard! If any detailed information is known, please post a Comment or contact info@saveelmontevalley.com.
